Elementary students from the village of Mitsuya Shinden on the Tokaido Road
One of the very few Okada images of Mt. Fuji with the primary focus being people.
Description: Rare image by Okada showing people prominently posed in the foreground. This photo was taken at the village of Mitsuda Shingen, in Shizuoka Prefecture, which is on the old and historic Tokaido Road. In the book “Mt. Fuji”, by Okada Koyo, Hobundo Publishing, Tokyo, 1964, he writes about this location:
“Mitsuya Shinden is a village on the highway between Mishima and Hakone about 20 minutes by car from Mishima. If you turn left off the highway and go beyond the farmhouses that line it, you come to the broad fields seen here. Since the place is conveniently located, I usually go there about once a month, and the rhythmical changes in the appearance of the fields fascinates me”.
